Dormice are a legally protected endangered species. You must not disturb them or their resting places (nests/boxes) unless they are in need of medical attention or in immediate danger. If in doubt, please call before touching a dormouse unless they are obviously injured or orphaned.
Dormice hibernate on the ground from November to April, so if you find a cold, unresponsive dormouse this is completely normal. They stay like this for several weeks at a time and emerge in spring. Please make sure the dormouse is safe from predators and ring for advice before touching it.
If a dormouse has been caught by a cat then please get help for it as soon as possible, as it will require medication to prevent infection.
If you would like to make a donation to help fund food and equipment for the rescued dormice, please click the Donate button. Many thanks for all donations.
